O que podemos saber da história de uma interacção social e cultural

Eis um livro sobre o assunto de que gostei vivamente. Fica um excerto:

The study of the literature and the various groups within Judaism of the late Second Temple period is a most fertile field for studying such identity matters, and one which is also of crucial significance for the subsequent history of Jews and Christians. How could different groups develop and maintain their identity within the challenge of Hellenistic and early Roman culture? Was there a common ‘Jewish’ identity, and how could it be defined? What about the images of ‘others’? And how could some of those ‘others’ adopt a Jewish lifestyle or identity, at the same time that other others, from within, abandoned their inherited identity? Finally, how were the world-views and beliefs of the emerging groups of Jesus-followers related to different aspects of Jewish identity?

Ontem aconteceu-me o impensável (comprar um[a espécie de] guia turístico e ter intenções de o ler de uma ponta a outra)

Yes, other islands off Dubrovnik are just as beautiful, but they seem to hold nothing. Here you live in a flower bed of Greek mithology and poetry, to which sooner or later you sucumb because you realize that all these fruits of the brilliant human imagination are not fanciful chimeras but simply facts - the facts os greek life and nature. And it comes with quite a shock to realize that the roots of our own cultures are buried in this rocky soil. There is no help for it, we are all Greeks, as Shelley once said.

Siphenos (Grécia) 1961, por Henri Cartier-Bresson

É uma rapariga (não sei se é uma rapariga, penso sempre que sim) em 1961, em Siphenos (uma das ilhas das Cíclades?, Grécia), a subir uma escada. A imagem é a de uma dessas aldeias todas caiadas de branco, que os gregos de hoje em dia sabiamente colocam em postais, para deslumbrar os turistas. Mas é a objectiva de Cartier-Bresson e toda a graciosidade do movimento ficou intacta na fotografia.
Esta fotografia dá-me nostalgia (palavra que etimologicamente significa a dor do regresso ou talvez, entre nós, se possa traduzir como a saudade do regresso), uns blues, em relação à Grécia, o que não deixa de ser engraçado: ter nostalgia de lugares onde nunca se esteve. No meu caso são alguns, nenhum tanto como a Grécia.
